The Prophetic Virtues

May I suggest that instead of beard & trouser-lengths, we try and follow the true Sunna [example] of the prophets, esp. our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him & all the Prophets.

For instance The Prophetic Way includes:
Monotheism, Honesty, Poverty, patience, extra worship, love, trust in God, fear of the Almighty & hope in His mercy, asceticism [not celibacy], bravery & chivalry, respect, kindness, self-sacrifice, generosity, benevolence, forgiveness, charity, self-reliance etc. etc.

The books of seera [Biography] are full of examples of the greatness of the Prophetic character. Personally, when I'm so far away from these virtues, I don't see what is the use of my long beard & short trousers [which I do have. Short trousers don't get stuck in cycle pedals and are useful in the heat & filth of Pakistan...but in Canada...]
Even for other people, I find it better to tell them to cultivate the virtues [above] rather than the frivolities some consider important. What a mockery they make out of our religion. They go against God and His Book, & He has placed a veil over their understanding, so they wander blindly.

[tawheed, amanat, faqr, qana’at, nawafil, muhabba, tawakkal, khawf & rija, zuhd, futuwwa, adab; jud, eethar, sakha, karam. see The Holy Qur'an 2/273; 3/92; 47/38; 18/28. 2/222, 2/153; 2/273; 4/77; 35/15; 83/14; etc.]

Salaam Dear Brother:

How true your words are. Here is an old post on Darvish about the Prophetic Wisdom that exemplifies his virtues:
