Laylatul Qadr, Shab e Qadr
97. al-qadr: The Majesty
1 Lo! We revealed it on the Night of Predestination.
2 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Night of Power is!
3 The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
4 The angels and the Spirit descend therein, by the permission of their Lord, with all decrees.
5 (The night is) Peace until the rising of the dawn.
the Holy Qur'an, sura 97, Translated by Muhammad Pickthall.
*****************************
There are different views about when it is, some Sufi Masters have said it's the first night of Ramadan, some the 17th, 19th 24th, 27th or 30th.
One is reminded of Shaykh Saadi's observation that any night is Qadr if one has Qadr for it... a play on the word, meaning that if one values any night by worshiping God in it, it becomes the night of value.
The Holy Qur'an has a sura or short chapter about this Night [above]. It is also widely believed that this was the blessed Night on which the Revelation of the Holy Qur'an commenced to our Noble Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace.
However most Sufis agree that Shab e Qadr falls on one of the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan/Ramzan, and the specific night is hidden so that believers may seek this night, which is worth a thousand months.
That works out to over eighty years, so you can imagine how valuable is worship in this night to the Sufis... it is really an imperative if one wishes to travel the Sufi Path.
One famous saint, Hazrat Abul Hasan Kharqani, may God sanctify his station, observed a pattern often found in the Night of power, I am reproducing this for the benefit of my fellow travelers. If this is of help, i.e. the Night does actually fall on that day, then please make a prayer for me.
So here is Hazrat Abul Hasan Kharqani's chart:
If the first fast of Ramzan is on a Sunday or a Wednesday, then the Night is likely [but not certain] to fall on the 29th
if the 1st fast is on Friday or Monday, the Night is likely to be 27th
if the 1st fast is on Thursday, the Night is likely to be 25th
if the 1st fast is on Saturday, the Night is likely to be 23rd
if the 1st fast is on Tuesday, the Night is likely to be 21st
and God knows best.
* please remember that the 21st night for example, will be the night between the 20th fast and the 21st fast.

Hello - i read that you spent ramadan in konya. I happen to be leaving for konya and would like some insight from you on the Mevlana's shrine. kindly email me. thanks.
salam alaykum, no, never been there. Never wrote such either. Perhaps you're thinking of Shaykh Gamard whose interview is below, you can find the Shaykh's email on his website.
By the grace of God, I have been to Konya, last Ramadan. It's Turkey's most Islamic city. Lot's of tourists flock to the shrine of Mevlana, most of them from the West. The shrine is within the complex of Mevlana Museum, 10 Turkish Liras for single adult.
The museum has highly scared pieces including a hair of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). His shrine is a very very calm and serene place.
aslam o alyakum,
there r some videos of Prof Ahmad Rafique Akhtar on youtube.do u know anything about him and his teachings?a lot of people related to media and literature are very fond of him but he openly criticizes Shaikhs like Ibn E Arabi r.a and Shah Wali Ullah r.a in a manner which is not suitable for someone who claims to be a Wali.your thoughts?
Dear anonymous, I've no knowledge about this gentleman. I've heard only good things about him.
But as the Prophet PBUH advised, concern yourself with your own soul. We have enough faults of our own... at least I do :)
I gather you don't have a shaykh? Look for a shaykh. Find your Murshid, seek your light. Don't run around dispelling darkness! You will soon tire and become dispirited.
Just friendly advice, please don't take it wrong. I can sense you have spiritual potential inshallah you'll go far.
God bless.
i was going to take it wrong but then you mentioned my spiritual potential :)
by the way how did u sense it?i don't feel anything spiritual about myself.
i was asking about Prof Ahmad Rafique Akhtar because i wanted to make sure that he was the right person.i don't want to listen to someone and then find out later he is Ghamdi alike.
I agree to the comments of Rizwan sahib, for one's own sins,
Every person has a natural spiritual dinamo, need a shkh to charge, but atleast till you find your murshid, you may do zikir od Kalima and drood pak and pray to Allah for the place where your share might be!
