when you started your spiritual journey, were there any times when you found the false self pulling you backwards or was it an easy transformation and how hard was it for you to left all those meaningless habits,doubts and thoughts behind?in other words how much time it took for you to walk on the path without any fall back to old self.i observe that people try to change but after some time they return to their false selfs and all that hard work goes in vain.they feel sorry for themselves,they try again and same thing happens again and again.is it because they don't have the talent to walk on this spiritual path?it is written in kashf al mahjub that you can train a horse but you cannot change a donkey into a horse. your thoughts please.

True enough, but how do you know if you have a horse or a donkey? You won't know till the end, the summing up.
So one should simply persevere, one WILL make progress, do not be disheartened by slips.
There is a Sufi saying, Allah Almighty does not bring anyone to the Path whom He does not wish to complete it. So, Inshallah!
