From the Book of Sufi Wisdom

"Only the ignorant man scorns the recitation of litany [al-wird]. Inspiration [al-waarid] is to be found in the Hereafter , while the litany vanishes with the vanishing of this World.

But it is more fitting to be occupied with something for which there is no substitute.
The litany is what He seeks from you, the inspiration is what you seek from Him.

But what comparison is there between what He seeks from you and what you seek from Him?"

-Kitab al Hikm Aphosrism no. 112

masha'Allah, a very important point for all salikeen to take note of.

The Hikam os Sidi Ibn Ata'illah are wondrous and as Imam Sanusi said it is a barzakh between those books that foucs on tasawwuf amli (such as those of Imam Ghazali etc) and those that focus more on tasawwud zauqi (such as those of Shaykh al Akbar etc).
