About

I'm nobody important. A small-time art teacher, I sort of stumbled into Sufism about a decade or so ago. I'm not a Sufi, obviously, just a student , very much a sinner ... Altho' mostly preoccupied with my family, art, music and organic gardening, I do have an interest in Sufism, and this site was initially born out of the desire to highlight a link between green living and Islam, hence the title. A few years ago I got involved with Sufism and I started this blog, but as I said am more involved in dunya rather than deen.

The information here has been of help to me, it may be of help to you too. Please don't think me some pious soul dispensing advice, rather a struggling sinner and the advice is first & foremost reminders to myself.

"Green, Sufi" refers to this blog's main subjects not me: I go by cyclewala. There actually IS someone called  Green Sufi, I found:  some new age/shaman/yoga-guru [you get the picture] see him here The Green Sufi. That's NOT me... but it's too late to change this blog's name. Should've called it green sufism to begin with. Oh well.

NOTE
My posts featuring my own unconsequential thoughts -except this one- are in italics, and the posts featuring teachings of the Masters etc are in regular font.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE
There are many strains of Sufism other than the one represented here, some more Orthodox and some more Liberal, so this may not be your cup of tea....this site does have music and pictures for instance.

For instance: If you'd like to visit a more strict Fiqh-complaint Sufi order, please visit the Shadhilli Teachings link in sidebar or the Khanqah Imdadia site; if looking for more lax Universal or New Age-y take on Sufism visit Mystic Saint's blog.

My sources for understanding Sufism are summarized in the page "What is Sufism."

To end with some lines of Hazrat Ibn Ata'illah al-shadhilli seems appropriate:

"My God,
how gentle You are with me,
inspite of my great ignorance
and how merciful You are with me,
despite my ugly deeds"

Thanks for visiting.
God bless & safe journeys.

AA & God bless you.

I would like to find a way to exchange some thoughts with you but wonder if this public place is the right space since I am verbose estaghfullah and also the issues may not be for all.
